BBC Search re-launches with enhanced audio and video content

The BBC has re-launched the BBC search engine with a new audio-visual search capability, a new user interface and enhanced usability and quality.

For the first time, users will be able to search selected television and radio programmes in addition to audio and video content from the BBC's News, Radio and Sports archives.

The BBC Internet Search engine Microsoft's Windows Live Search and the internal search is (to be) powered by enterprise software company Autonomy.

I searched there, but for the terms that I am searching, I see good results, however, it says for UK visitors only. And it does not give any RSS opportunities as google search does.

As always, .uk sites are placed first in SERP even when choosing 'the web'.

As a person who pays the BBC license fee but is currently resident abroad, I am somewhat disappointed that the BBC refuses to stream me much of the content.

There are two ways around the ip limit, either use a uk proxy or if you look at the url for the streams, you'll notice there are flags present you can toggle or rename an extension (ie. .wxx becomes .wmv).

for example I clicked on an eastenders clip and got
"We're sorry. The content you requested is available for UK users only."
so I just add "&nbram=1&bbram=1&nbwm=1&bbwm=1" to the end of the URL and it works fine.

But yes, it's silly to filter that way.

Why on earth would you be paying a licence and not living in the UK?

All I can think really is to commend you as a true patriot. Well done that man!

stinkfoot - I don't live abroad full-time. It just irks me that the people who (perhaps) might benefit the most from this - British living overseas that would love to be able to watch some BBC TV - are missing out - there's no mechanism for me, even as a license payer, to access the content.
