Google UK Maps and Local

Google does love us Brits afterall...

Released, we have Google Local UK [local.google.co.uk] and Google Maps UK [maps.google.co.uk].

Now, if they'd just give us pretty satellite images too...

Now they just have to work on the accuracy.

Looked up my street, it shows two dead end roads that run parallel to it, which I've never noticed.

I've been outside to check -- no ones built any new roads today!

some of the data is really really odd like when searched for example hairdressers in "town" I got some hairdressers, a web designer, and a funeral director... Hmm at first I thought it was YELL DATA but when I cross checked it it was Google that was wrong not Yell..

Great application with loads of potential.

Following on from steve's comments, they need to work on the accuracy on postcodes as well as the maps.

On a number of lookups I've done, the flag points to a different street than it should do. Granted, the road is only one street away, but surely accuracy is everything in a mapping application? It's spot on when using road names, just out on postcodes. Slight DB glitch?

The directions 'from >> to' need some work too.

If I want to drive from one side of town to the other, it takes me right through a pedestrian zone. This has been closed to traffic for at least 4 years, so it's not a case of old data.

If I reverse the direction of the journey, it does change the route to allow for one way streets, still goes through the pedestrian zone though.

This is a significant change, the top result in Google SERPS is based on your location. Time to review some post codes!.
