.co.uk domain on US server

Will it affect UK Google serps

I have a .co.uk url hosted by an American server.
My site is aimed exclusivly at the UK market. Could anyone tell me if the server location will affect my sites ranking on UK Google search results?

I'm just about to host my UK site abroad as well - but am going with a UK DNS host, which is just going to point to host server (abroad somewhere!). Although I should still come in UK searches (have a .co.uk name) with a UK IP address it should be doubly safe...

Onders I think the SE's will take the host ip as otherwise they would never crawl your site.

Burcot it never used to but I am starting to think a co.uk on a uk host MAY do better in google uk, whislt a .com hosted in the UK MAY do better in Google.com.

I really don't know why but the old order no longer holds true! ( All the Time!)

I'd think twice about this.

I've been hosting my site in the US (aimed at UK market) for 5 years. For almost 5 years I have appeared in the UK SERP's without fail.

Last week I was completely dropped from the UK results. I'm now about to move my site to a UK host as the drop in traffic is seriously costing me a LOT of money.

erm, there is a flaw in your logic here, if you are hosting abroad then your ip address will be 'foreign' it cannot be a uk ip address!

a friend of mine within a similar sector has his site hosted in the US his site ranks well on .com but is nowhere to be found on .co.uk. He has similar link count and optimisation as mine so I'd say it does make a difference if you want it to rank well on .co.uk you need it hosted on this side of pond

We've discussed this topic so many times. It always points back to ensuring your IP (where the site is hosted) is seen as a UK IP if you want to appear in the UK serps. There are a few minor exceptions and the system the search engines use is not fooproof.

But how long does it take for each of the engines to recognise a change in IP and more a site into the local results?
