Everyone in Ireland gets their college fees paid by the government so there are plenty of science/tech graduates.
Couple that with access to the EU market in an English-speaking country and hey presto you have Yahoo/Google/Overture setting up shop here.
Ireland's advantage over Britain is an extremely favourable corporation tax rate.

corporation tax 10% fixed in Ireland - 32% above 300k a year profit in the UK - let's be realistic - where would you chose to go!

Don't forget as well that many of these companies receive grants under the cross-border peace initiative banner.

Microsoft now have an Office in Belfast which is basically a Satellite of the Dublin office.

Dont ya just hate these companies opening up offices in third world countries - just to save a buck!

Not another Irish search engine. :) All we need now is for MSN to base their European operations here. I wonder is this the eHub of Europe that the politicans were talking about a few years ago?

Every irish job site has advert for google post so they must be setting up a pretty big shop.... I had to apply... what zane irish man wouldnt want to work for google... imagine the craic.

English speaking country who uses the Euro as does almost of Europe would be my guess as to why these companies are setting up in Ireland.
