How long will it take till I know if it's worked?

Have changed host for .com domain that is UK specific

Hi

I've just changed host for a .com domain that is aimed at the UK market after advice from this forum.

The .com site does well in google world and is nowhere in google uk.

It was hosted by a US company with servers in the US i've now changed to a UK company with servers here in the UK to see if this does the trick with UK google.

How long will it take till I know if this has worked or not. (i know it's obvious if i start showing in google uk it's worked) but how long does it take for google to pick new details on something like this and then action it? - my site has been updated today by google and has a new date stamp but isn't showing in google world :(

Would appreciate any feedback, thanks in advance.

Forgot to add that I checked today and the new nameservers are showing up already for the site, which is why i'm asking the question today. :)

That's a tough one to say. There are other factors involved including, your page rank, inbound links, how often you are normally spidered, etc.
Google's spidering is usually around the end/beginning of each month so you might have slipped in there just in time. It may take more than one visit, which is likely, for it to be recognised. I normally allow for three months if the first spidering cycle is missed.

I have moved a few sites over and have found the delay to be on average two weeks. Given the date of your post, you should be in the UK index by now. Assuming that is your UK host uses UK IP adressess, not all do.

Well it worked and I forgot to come back and report, it took about 3 days and now the site and its subs are all over google uk too!

So thank you to all who suggested a UK host, it's such an obvious answer, unless you don't even realise the implications of hosting in the US with a .com domain!

I am, shortly, launching my own e-commerce web site; and, as a rank amateur, I would very much appreciate some guidance from more experienced people like yourselves.

I have acquired a .biz domain name,which is being hosted my a US company. As I see my market as being UK orientated; and, after reading all of your well informed observations and comments, about gaining a satisfactory listing in the UK search engines, I am wondering if I have done the right thing?

Is a .biz website, which is US hosted, going to show up favourably in UK specific search engines? If not, is there anything I can do to rectify the situation?

This would show up in all global searches, i.e. not Google UK, Ireland, Germany etc. If you want your site to appear in the UK version of Google you need to either have a .co.uk domain or be hosted with a UK hosting company using UK IP addresses.
