I have another question about this please if anyone can help me.

My problem is the other way round by coincidence I bought a .com domain name about a year ago and have about 10 subdomains coming from it. These all do well first 2 pages of a fairly competitive term in google world for the UK search.

Now the problem these sites are nowhere to be seen reading this thread so far, has given me an idea.

I registered this with a US company it's a .com as i've already said and it's hosted in the US. Despite the UK being in title tags description anchor text etc google UK doesn't show this site.

How do I rectify this? from what i've read so far i'm thinking that I need to swap the host from a US host to a UK one. Can anyone please clarify this and advise me on exactly what sort of server I should be looking for for this domain and it's subs.

I'm not a techie!

Many thanks in advance any help would be really appreciated.

You have answered your own question correctly

You need to host in the UK

Sticky me if you need any further help

Earwig thanks for posting a reply to me.

I meant to post this post on the end of a similar post hence the reference to another thread somehow managed to start a new one! oops. sorry.

So basically hosting this .com site in the UK on UK specific servers should tell google that this site is UK related.

If anyone has any other information regarding this that might help me please let me know.

I've been doing my own few sites since July last year and have come on leaps and bounds purely through reading here. I'm a complete novice compared to most but have managed to make a living in 12 months from scratch so thanks to anyone reading this!

I have a .com and .co.uk I initially started with the .com as my main domain and the .co.uk being the addon domain. After finding out my servers are located in USA and reading about the fact that I might not get into the uk only search I did panic. I sell a product and am happy to export anywhere except the USA.

I immediatly changed my domain round so the .co.uk is the main domain and now the .com is the addon. I've recently redesigned my page and was checking to see which pages are in google and am pleased that all but a few pages are in the UK only search.

If you change your main domain to be the .co.uk instead of the .com (my host did this themselves as I'm no techie either) then you'll be in the UK search.

Make sure the UK servers are actually in the UK. Many UK hosts use US servers.

Hi,

So if i changed my main domain from .com to .co.uk, i know i would start getting better results in the .co.uk part of google, but wouldnt i get banned for mirroring a site and also i would have to change all my back links, for example my PPC and all my paid inclusion directories.

Cheers

Hi,

We have all .co.uk domains which are hosted in the US and these do well on google.com and google.co.uk, better on google.com though which receives far more traffic.
