Delv - search engine or dud?

Is www.delv.co.uk a waste of time?

Being offered £399 for an exclusive top listing on delv sounds like yet another search facility looking for easy money.... and delivering nothing

Could anyone offer me an alternative view?

I'd trust your initial instincts.

In all these cases work out the number of visitors you'd get from PPC with Google or Overture for your money - then think about whether you'd get that many from this source.

These sites like Delv are set up to earn money from PPC affiliations. You might as well sign up direct with Overture Espotting.

Does this mean they are part of Infospace? Or are they just using a feed/ have a partner kind of relationship?

Ian - will it get to the point where people just won't care what engine they use - as long as it gives accurate results?

Will people really pay £400 for a listing. And what do you get for that exactly? I mean how do they intend to promote you and what sort of ROI can you expect.

When will engines like these learn. Most site businesses can't afford £400 at a time. Okay, if you use it as a tax loss, but I'm talking about the smaller guys, the 1 man shows, so to speak.

There's got to be a market to serve them at an affordable price surely.

How does ripping off customers ever serve in the long run. Where's the long term advantage in that?

It isn't a long term business, IMHO. The idea is to get a site very popular for a period of time and use that as leverage to persuade people to buy the ads. If the site dies quickly it doesn't matter because they already have the cash.

I would think that if they are charging that much then they don't expect the site to last a long time.

I hate these type of engines. There are a fair few of them, and I bet more will come along.

Do you think there could be a way of getting rid of them - warning potential advertisers about them? Or will word of mouth do it for us lol

Also notice on the terms and conditions of the Delv site, they seem to have ripped it off Netscape.

Surely they could have alteast done a proper search and replace.
