Differences between Y! directory U.S./U.K.

Do they differ?

Hi

I was wondering if it's better to submit to - Y!.com or Y! UK and Ireland? Are there any repercussions for where listings might appear depending on which site I use to submit? This will be a paid submission.

I was also curious as to how often GoogleUK updates from the Y! directory. I gather from other threads that this is a bit hit and miss.

Many thanks for any info.

Yahoo UK charges £199 as a one-off fee.

Yahoo.com charges $299 a year.

I know what I would choose for a UK site :)

Fair enough! - $299 is about £165. But is price the only consideration? Might I be better off submitting to Y!UK for other reasons?

If your site is UK focused then UK is the logical one. If you are UK based but want to be percieved as being relevant across the globe, then .com would be logical if you want to be hit by a recurring annual fee.

Does anyone know what is going on with submissions down at Yahoo UK? It has been down from this end for the past few days - typical, I need to submit a site as well...

I see. Thanks for the tips.

I hadn't actually realised that .com was recurring, and UK wasn't (why is this?)

Does a site included in UK directory enter the 'main' index, or is it all one index?

Also, I'd still really like to kmow when Google updates from Y!s directory index - sorry, maybe I should be in another forum for that...

Thanks again

If you have a UK site go for the UK directory.

You can submit for free down at Yahoo.com
- use it while it lasts ;-) - this is for their search engine index not the directory ( 2 different things )

Google uses DMOZ directory not Yahoo and from what I can tell updates sporadically.

Does the UK submit button work for you?

Well, I opened the submit page about an hour ago, and left it open, so it looks like I can actually submit through there (just as well I didn't close it!).

However, if I go to the 'submit a site' page in a new window, there is a problem with "Document not found.
The page may no longer exist, or you may have typed the URL incorrectly."

I noticed this was on and off yesterday.
