Twitter Developer Terms Now Ban Third-Party Clients

With no apparent communications or notice, twitter cut off access for third-party clients [webmasterworld.com].

It has now updated its developer terms, again without notice, and it now bans third-party clients.

The “restrictions” section of Twitter’s developer agreement was updated Thursday with a clause banning “use or access the Licensed Materials to create or attempt to create a substitute or similar service or product to the Twitter Applications.” The addition is the only substantive change to the 5,000-word agreement.

The change confirms what the makers of many popular Twitter clients have suspected in recent days: that third-party Twitter services are no longer permitted under Elon Musk’s leadership.

Well, we did vote him off the island as CEO, lol. Maybe he's just busy under the hood of his company while the corporate boycott (elite telling companies not to buy ads on Twitter) does their dance.

Media never writes nice things about him since buying Twitter anyway, regardless of what he does, but that doesn't bother everyone, least of all him, so maybe he just doesn't want to hold media's hand right now. Who knows.

Either way, the majority of users seem happy not to have to read as many automated tweets telling them about AI written posts. With little value to active users, no profit for Twitter, and no contract in place, getting rid of 3rd party apps made sense.

People always did complain about automated spam, even when Musk didn't own Twitter, and they still do on other platforms....
