Twitter has said it's testing an edit button internally, and it says it'll be expanded to twitter Blue subscribers in a specific country in the coming weeks.
The current test is for tweets to be edited up to 30-minutes from tweeting, and will come with a timestamp and label so users can see the original is edited. Users selecting the label will be taken to the tweet's history.

Given that this is our most requested feature to date, we wanted to both update you on our progress and give you a heads up that, even if you’re not in a test group, everyone will still be able to see if a Tweet has been edited.

Heh. Most tweets should be edited BEFORE POSTING, but that's never going to happen. A 30 minute window is way too long as the internet is embarrassingly swift AND never forgets...

Not sure what this edit button will address. By the time the tweeter makes the change a number of well-known sites will have enshrined and ...

Panacea being offered? Mea culpa?

An EDITED tweet marked as EDITTED does not change the original...

Highly anticipated! Very interesting how that pans out - especially if an existing tweet goes viral and the owner edits it a long the way?

I've noticed that the period of regret for a tweet begins as soon as send is hit. By then it is too late to do any editing. On the other hand a CORRECTION tweet is a cleaner method and keeps "the paper trail" intact. Editing the past is not always good for the future.

2˘ worth.
