Twitter Rolls Out Alt Text, and Exposed Image Descriptions

Twitter has rolled out alt text and exposed image descriptions for images to help make twitter more accessible.

Users simply upload an image and select Add Description which appears under an image, entering a text to describe the image for alt text, and then select Save.
The alt text will appear as a badge in the corner of an image.

Accessibility is always a key issue, but to pop it up when not required? Scratching head on that.

I'm with you tangor, you only need that stuff when the image fails to load.

it's not an SEO update is it? Perhaps not to rank but to make all images a bit different on Twitter than off? Depending on how they implement it I suspect there's other reasons for this than pure accessibility..

I'm just LOOKING at the fact I can SEE the image... why would I want a popup that makes me click it out of the way? I think more will be irritated that those who might benefit ... er... if they can read the description why have it?

(accessibility INCLUDES reading the alt text in the first place!)

WAIT! Is this an opportunity for those uploading images to t to come back and SUPPLY the alt?
