Twitter has rolled out a new look and its own typeface, Chirp, which it says makes the site more accessible, "unique and focussed." Chrip was announced back in January, but this is rolling out now on web and mobile.
I see a lot tweets about the font and to be honest, I don't really like it either.

I'm sure I'll get used to it in time but the font style is bland.

Color me not impressed. However, I get it that the art department had to get their licks in to keep jobs and all that. :) (joking ... but not by much!)
All can can add is it looks like an overweight expanded Arial BOLD with an odd x-height. It is not comfortable to read, but it is legible.
I admit to being one of those "art" guys as regards fonts ... but learned a LONG TIME AGO to avoid it on the web like plague! Keep It Simple, Sir! (K.I.S.S.)
Users, after all, are more comfortable with their defaults (whatever those might be) than any esoteric refinements beyond bold and italic which might be used.
YMMV
(reading a few comments around the web it is the usual number of miffed haters while I suspect the vast majority never even noticed the difference!)

I don't see a difference. But I don't have an account, I browse public pages only (with a css filter that unlocks everything).
I wonder if they are doing the same as facebook. Only logged users see the new layout. Anonymous visitors still have the old design.

Never fall in love with a font until you've seen it in italics
