Twitter has announced its rolling out its new verification application program for the "blue badge." It could take up to a few weeks to get a response from twitter as, i'm sure, the "queue" is likely to be quite long. Twitter says the initial categories are there to establish the most popular, but it will be adding more categories later this year.

Twitter will also establish new account types for automated accounts in the next few months, and memorialised accounts to follow in due course.

With today’s application launch, we’re also introducing new guidelines for verified accounts on Twitter. These verification guidelines are intended to encourage healthy conversations for the betterment of the Twitter community overall. They follow the philosophy to lead by example, Tweet others how they want to be Tweeted, and serve the public conversation authentically, respectfully, and with consideration. As always, all accounts, including verified accounts, must follow the Twitter Rules. And as we previously shared, verified accounts that repeatedly violate the Twitter Rules are subject to have the blue badge removed.
To qualify for verification, you must fit the criteria of one of the six categories listed below:

Government
Companies, brands and organizations
News organizations and journalists
Entertainment
Sports and gaming
Activists, organizers, and other influential individuals

I don't have to prove I'm me, I'm just me.

The world is a soup, it's best not to try and seperate the ingredients and a badge is like a cover, you shouldn't judge the person's ideas by it.

I wrote that, would it mean anything different if someone else did?

hehehe The verification program is not about "me" it's about users feeling confident I am who I claim.

It'll come as no surprise that there are probably lots of of users out there purporting to be "personalities", or even coincidentally similarly-named.

Maybe, but if that's the case Twitter shouldn't be giving accounts to imposters so the badge system is a fix for a mistake.

Think of the radio, no two channels can be on the same wavelength yet I'm free to choose which station I listen to. The account url is unique for all, there's your wavelength, so now make it navigable. Twitter can't undo how they assigned those urls so now it must make people 'prove' which is not people's problem, it's Jack's.

Hello,

At some point, may be personalities / brands / companies, will stop using Social networks, and get back to using their own web sites, to be identifiable.

If Twitter has taught me anything over the years, it's that if you see a blue check mark, you run the other direction as fast as you can.
Being “famous” on social media is like being rich in Monopoly. It’s NOT real life.

First of all the link to "HTTP response headers page" on this site should be renamed to "HTTPS Response Headers", then there is Twitter thingy.

Outside in a garden, just snapped a picture of Mosquito sitting on my laptops display, picture includes JS_Harris, JorgeV(always says Hello) and mcnellly's join date, posts & #votes.

There ^^^, did I need to do all that and describe all that?

I guess it depends on who you follow. ;)
or Who you lead? maybe;)
