Twitter Lets Android Users Switch Latest and Top Tweets

Twitter has said Android users can now switch between Top Tweets and Latest Tweets. This was announced for iOS a few weeks back, but Android seemed to lag behind.

Whee! Most times that won't make much difference as the latest tweets will be retweets of the top tweets. Pretty safe thing to do.

Much of the time I'd rather have latest tweets first, and thats mainly because twitter is all about immediacy, for me.

I believe that algorithms have helped kill social networks because, by giving the user what they had previously asked for, they have eliminated the surprise, the discovery, and created repetitive and boring timelines.

The trouble with so called "top tweets" is that you work your way down the timeline until you hit something you have read before and stop. What you may not realise is that Twitter has put it above stuff you haven't seen but want to.

I gave up on using my timeline within days of opening a Twitter account and access everything through lists.
