Twitter Takes Further Steps to Help Stop Abuse and Improve Safety

Twitter has introduced some new tools to help stop abuse online. It has new tools to help identify and stop abusive accounts being reopened after suspension. It's working on improving "safe search" to remove tweets with potentially sensitive content, and especially from muted and blocked accounts. The content will still be there, but you won't see it if you choose.

There a new way to collapse potentially abusive or low quality tweets to roll out in the coming weeks. Again, the content is there if you want to see it.

From my perspective - There is only one account that needs to be muted, completely. As soon as that is done, things will go back to normal.

I've never followed anyone so I don't see all that craziness. A few times a week someone sends me a message about something, usually about my site, but other than that, I don't engage.

I would assume the safety stuff is for the young users. Great Twitter keeps active with that.

Half the country voted for him and find 'teeheehee' jokes like those above unfunny and/or revolting, they are way overdone.

I just wanted to add that it seems Twitter's idea of security was to lock down any new account appearing to come from Russia until a mobile phone number is provided. You can test that yourself by creating an account via a free Russian email provider like mail.ru. While the half that enjoys throwing insults at the elected president wouldn't mind that it's not a solution. You can set up accounts from countries that openly support Jihadists without such restrictions.

If twitter wants to censor and govern the conversations, then millions will have no interest, and they will be just another echo chamber.

Nothing puts off users of a communication platform faster than suspecting their posts are hidden-blocked-censored.

If twitter management can steel themselves to withstand the naturally generated content, they will have a quite valuable insight to what people think. and people will not feel they are wasting their time over there.

Twitter got recent fame such as very few companies have ever had; they can parlay that into over-topping F-book, or just let the oppty slip through their fingers.
Do they have the courage to remain un-involved with their own personal agendas?
It is the difference between mediocre and truly great; historical milestone, or minor footnote.
Note that someone else has already chosen "Historical Milestone" in their use of twitter and Twitter can also share that, or not.
This usage is like someone figuring out how to modify a car to casually go to the moon on a day drive.. It is that significant.
