With 271 milliion active users, and mobile at 211 million active users, clearly, twitter has a good user base. However, although it actually made a loss in Q2 of $144.6 million. According to Wall Street investors, they liked the performance and shares rose on the back of the announcements.

"Our strong financial and operating results for the second quarter show the continued momentum of our business," said Dick Costolo, CEO of Twitter. "We remain focused on driving increased user growth and engagement, and by developing new product experiences, like the one we built around the World Cup, we believe we can extend Twitter's appeal to an even broader audience."Twitter Reports Q2 Financial Results: Revenue Up 124pct to $312 Million [investor.twitterinc.com]
