People don't like being sold to, especially in social media, but they do accept advertising. Don't think about promoting the products unless you are planning on advertising on twitter.
Use your profile on twitter to interact with others, strike up conversations, and discuss topics of interest. Your profile is your shop window and if you're engaging, people will naturally be curious.

I totally agree with Engine. If you have any freebies, then they can be quite well received on Twitter, which can help expand your reach.

@Hajira. Please don't promote your products using Twitter.
From a commercial stand point, social media is about affinity with brand. It is most definately NOT about selling.
