Twitter CEO Dick Costolo told reporters in Japan yesterday that Twitter has no plans to buy an Instagram competitor to keep up with Facebook. Quite the contrary, Costolo said that he plans to improve his company's application programming interface (API) to help third parties improve integration on the social network.

Why would they want an Instagram clone?

Trendy imaging toys come and go faster than anything else and the fact that Flickr is still used as much as it is amazes me.

They should just stick with basics such as twitpic and ride it out as most people didn't think twitter would survive this long and it did, so they should just focus on doing what works and ignore the noise.
