A bit of a newb question, and seeking thoughts on my idea.

Do we have confirmation that twitter posts count for rankings in Google? If so, I gather that I need to mention my URL in the twitter post to gain any traction?

Secondly, I believe that in my industry, consumers won't follow me on twitter. But - I can likely get my competitors and others to follow me on twitter. Are there any attributes about the followers that matter? i.e. is it just the sheer volume of twitter followers? Or does the fact that they're in the same industry as me matter?

A couple of points.

The search engines get the pipe feed from twitter. In this pipe feed the links do not have no follow (sorry for the double negative!).

It is logical for SE´s to include in there algo some sort of qualified measure of social media noise.

Twitter definitely helps to increase the traffic to your blogs. As the traffic increases, the rankings grow.

The original post talks about rankings, not traffic.

I am not are that traffic is a rankings influencer.
