I've been using addthis -hacked up a bit to be less intrusive- for years. I've noticed that many ad blockers remove it altogether. Lately I've further noticed that the blocking is no longer just by separate ad blocker software, but also by the default behavior built in to many browsers and systems. So I'm wondering, is it so intrusive and so increasingly useless that I should stop using it altogether?

Do YOU use addthis? And if not, what's a reasonable alternative?

No, I removed it.

If you're on WordPress, there are plugins that accomplish that without JavaScript, which are lightweight and may sidestep ad blockers.

@ckollars ... Welcome to Webmasterworld.

I don't use it, never have. On the other hand, a lot of tracking/user ID has been and will continue to be taken out not just by the ad blockers, but the browsers as well.

Tangor makes an interesting point about privacy, which relates to GDPR and also California privacy rules.

The advantage of a stripped down non-JS solution is that no data is gathered or kept. The downside is that you won't have access to that information.
