Sentiment analysis seeks to determine the public's (SM users) view of brand based on the posts made to social media. This generally works using Natural Language Processing, where the text from the post is read by a bot and is parsed to find negative and positive terms. By finding more positive terms the system would conclude that the general sentiment for the brand is positive. This is explanation is over simplified, but I think gives the gist of it.

It is a new version of brand analysis. Useful for number watchers and talking heads.

Social Media Sentiment is very important to our business. By the help of sentiment, we can understand audience sentiment about our brand, product or service. It is social listening that can improve our performance.

Sentiment analysis means monitoring social media posts and discussions, then figuring out how participants are reacting to a brand or event.

Usually used on reviews or social media texts, sentiment analysis is also called opinion mining. It is a text mining technique that could extract emotions of a given text – whether it is positive, negative, or neutral, and return a sentiment score. There are many powerful web scraping tools that help in social media sentiment analysis.
