My pages historically have displayed social sharing icons for:
Facebook, twitter, Google+, email and then the typically catch-all icon for selecting scores of others.
For the most part, my stats show that Facebook, twitter, Google+ and email sharing all generate about the same number of icon clicks.
I recently found space to add 2 more icons. I chose reddit and stumble upon. (Previously their sharing level had been near zero.)
With that change, Facebook, Google+, email, reddit and stumble upon now all produce about the same activity, but activity via Twitter has plummeted.
Collectively, the overall level of sharing activity seems to be about the same as before.
(The increase in Reddit and StumbleUpon activity suggests that people tend not to use the "catch-all" icon when their favorite service isn't one of the icon's listed?)
With all of this, it seems for my site I can either increase activity on Twitter OR Stumble Upon + Reddit, but not both.
Would there be an advantage to having more activity on Twitter vs. the others (or vice versa).
(I'm guessing that some how Twitter is often used as a substitute sharing method when the person's favorite sharing service isn't listed?)
