How to handle meta desciption for ecommerce site product pages?

Will duplicate meta desciption in ecommerce site product pages affect rank?

Hi, I have just started SEO on a jewelery eCommerce website. As of now, all the product pages description are same as the parent category page description. It is difficult to write unique description for all the product pages as it has thousands of products. What would you recommend ? Should I remove the meta description tag from all product pages or just leave the content field blank in meta description tag. Can the product specifications be dynamically called in meta description tag?

When I have clients whose descriptions are basically the same, I use a script to dynamically enter the name and price of the product into the description. It is just enough of a change to eliminate "duplicate description" warnings from G.
