Sitemap processing changed?

Did Google change the way it processes xml sitempas? Or did W3C/sitemaps.org change anything? Bug anywhere?

We're suddenly seeing error:
No declaration for document root found, validation was lax

Has never been there before. Sitemaps didn't change. Thanks!

What was the problem and how was it solved?

This thread now appears on page 1 in a Google search for that error message.

Sorry about that! The problem disappeared after resubmitting the same sitemaps again.
