Can somebody tell me why indexing count fluctuates?

Google has dozens of data centers from which search results are served. The data in all of them is constantly changing, and Google does not synchronize them to force them to all contain the same data at any given moment.
If your site is relatively new, it could take a couple of years before the counts settle down, and the counts you see could vary wildly from day to day.
