How can you Disallow a Sub-Domain?

we have a site with a sub-domain which we do not want indexed. Can anyone tell me, do we have to create a separate robots.txt file for the sub-domain or do we simply add a line of text to the main sites robots.txt?

Yes, you have to create a separate robots.txt file on the root file of this subdomain.
