After 36 ours of panic after my site dropped, I noticed that Google indexed my homepage as "https://www.eaxmple.com", rather than just "www.example.com" (or even "http://www.example.com") Result is PR0 - what's going on? Only my shopping cart has SSL. Wanted to tell Google, but gosh they make it hard to find their email address! Any input - even just their email adress- will be gratefully received by this novice!

<edit reason - use example.com
instead of real domain name>

I would setup a 301 so that your https:// pages redirect to http://

Also, make sure all your include pages that have links to your site have the complete path, for example, [yourdomain.com...] not /page1.html -- this way the robots can't by accident index your site securely.

And last, I would setup all the pages that you need to call securely in a folder and disallow that folder in robots.txt
