PHP Pagination issue

I'm having an issue with this code below. Basically I'm trying to past the fname below and have it display in my PHP page. Now it works get with the exception that it doesn't go beyond the 1st page when it outputs the info.

If I were to replace the FNAME LIKE '" .$fname . "' within the code and have it say something specific like FNAME = 'bob', ONLY then will the script work.

Is there something that I'm missing so that the variable carries over properly. I'm think I need to do some sort of session variable but I could be wrong.

Welcome aboard mrskikid15, as you can probably guess large code dumps are generally ignored. Per the TOS, always try to cut the problem to it's relevant parts, as a bonus, with a working example.

What you've guessed is correct - the old school way is to append any links in your pagination scheme with query strings:

This is the most solid approach, as it is not cookie dependent. Sessions are only sessions because they are connected to the browser via the PHPSESSID cookie. The problem with that is it makes for long ugly query strings that can affect SEO considerations.

Using session for pagination values also means that you'll have to determine logic as to when to unset your pagination variables - for example, someone creates a page requiring pagination, goes to page 2, you set the session variables for $fname, and they will stick. Now every view will have the $fname value unless you update or unset it.


A greater issue I see with the code you've posted is it pretty much globally uses raw input without checking or cleansing any of it:

$_GET[$remove_parameter];
intval($_GET[$this->parameter]);

This is a dangerous foundation on which to build a program, especially when dealing with databases. Plenty of posts around here on cleansing and validating input, address it now before it grows any larger.
