For your site? I believe Matt's simple search script allows you to set the file types that are searched. umm [cgi-resources.com...] I believe is the site or [worldwidemart.com...]

Matt's script archive is well known, and offers some good services. Unfortunately, it's really bad programming: riddled with bugs and security flaws and such.
Fortunately, there is a project underway to write compatible replacement scripts. It's at [nms-cgi.sourceforge.net...]
I believe the search script is included there.

Alternatively, there are a few sites which provide the service of crawling your site (or a subset of it) and providing you with search capabilities for the content. I'm thinking of things like spiderline.com or picosearch.com (and I'm sure others). I'm not affiliated with either, and I have only used one, so I can't compare them for you.

Hope it helps.

I'll agree that some of Matt's scripts have serious problems, it does fall into that general category of "vague elusive warnings". That is, I hear of problems, issues as a recurring theme but never have I seen someone go down the line and explicitly state the problems. Anyone somewhat familiar with perl/cgi can see that the scripts all allow file uploads and taint checking isn't happening. But in defense of the scripts, to be as useful as possible wouldn't any form of these checks ruin them for some uses? As in stripping meta characters out, maybe the user wants to allow specific characters?

Writing basic scripts that are secure and useful to a large % of users is a challenge. I commend those guys for actually trying to fix the scripts. Though, I don't see them ever getting the sheer popularity MSA enjoys, bugs and all :(

I'm just missing something with the "they spider the site for me". What do they get out of it? Is it remotely hosted? (ie takes forever since its offsite) ad based? Think the entire thing boils down to you get what you pay for.
