Whats going on with this error? Is it a common one for peak times? Or is it my host being,, well, rubbish?

How can we know what your host has the CGI limit set at? Maybe you are using too much resources, maybe not. Nobody here knows. Provide more details if possible.

Maybe, It could be that someone else on the server is a resource hog. Call your host and see what they say. They may be able to move you to another server. The type of customer service you get will determine whether or not they are truly "rubbish".

They are one of the largest UK webhosting providers, so thought they would be good. Trying to remember my settings; 6 sec 100% CPU, 10mb memory, max 12 numerical processes. I've been given the option to updgrade to something like 8 sec, and 16 numberical processes. Worth it?

If you want real control, rent a dedicated server. I got sick of having CGI scripts deleted by hosts, before a friendly host finally told me the realities.

Suffice to say. I use a dedicated server, and it's not in the UK it's in Canada and very reasonably priced (compared to our UK prices).
