Take a copy of The Perl Cookbook out at the libray.

...actually, if you are totaly new to Perl, you might want to check out:
Learning Perl by Randal L. Schwartz & Tom Christiansen ISBN# 1-56592-284-0
It's a lighter read than the Perl Cookbook and should have you writing code (by example) in an hour or so.
