previously working...

Hi! I'm having trouble with my formmail.pl script. I've been using it without problems for a few years now, and wanted to add the cc_visitor element to provide the 'email' field with a copy of the generated email.

However, when I installed the bformmail.pl script to enable this; it didn't work, and when I rolled back to the vanilla formmail.pl script, I got a "INTERNAL SERVER ERROR"

-The script has permissions set at 0755.
-Initial @referers is set to my domain

But I have no experience in Perl, and aren't sure where to begin. It was working a few hours ago, now nothing but the 500 Internal Server Error message.

Any help would be MUCH appreciated.

welcome to WebmasterWorld [webmasterworld.com], joshutk!

what was the error that was reported in your server error log?

Hey! I was getting a 'Message Header truncated' error (or something similar, but resolved that after 1)extensive googling, and 2) uploading the bformmail.pl script to my server properly (ascii mode).

The script is working to send the email to a gmail account we have set up to collect submissions; although the cc_visitor element in bformmail has never quite worked consistently. Recipients often don't receive the cc email.

I tried setting up a series of canned messages and filters in gmail, and even though the 'from' field in the email header is pulled from the 'email' field on the web form, gmail doesn't want to send it through.

I'm frustrated. Any ideas as to why this is happening?

generally speaking, we are quite happy to handle perl and cgi questions in this forum but if you have a specific problem with formmail you'll have to ask matt for support.

perhaps there is a formmail expert here that will recognize your problem and respond.
or you could look to see if a similar issue has been discussed here in the past:

Read "Ovid's CGI Course" - it has a section about finding CGI errors.

P.S. You should not use formmail from Matt's script archive.
