I would like to be able to call a snippet rather than hyperlink

First, I don't know anything much about CGI. Just enough to set the file path, upload in AASCI and set file permissions. I know how to look for the parts that need to be configured, but know nothing about modifying code.

I looked for something like I need in this forum and even did a search, but didn't find anything close.

I would like to be able to use a drop-down form select box. The action would "call" / "activate" / "insert" a snippet or a ssi .. at a specific location.

Alternatively, I could use links rather than a select form, but I still want to "insert" a snippet or ssi.

I don't want to use JavaScript. I know even less about PHP than I know about CGI.

If its way too difficult, slap me a couple of times and send me back out to play in the sandbox.

Someone may correct me, but if I understand you correctly, the only way to do this without javascript is with frames. I don't think even iframes will work for you since you cannot (to my knowledge) use an iframe as the target of a link.
