Hi webmasters. Ad blocking discussion topic aside (good or not), there are multiple reasons why someone would need this feature on their home or office network. Ad blocking can be achieved in the following ways
Directly on the browser. Just download one that allows this feature or install an extension for this purpose. But... when you use another browser, this feature will not be available. You can download some apps and block the ads at computer level, but it would only work on that computer.
Host file. There are multiple free host file configurations you can download to block content on your computer, this would work at computer level but still just on your computer, won't work at network level (on the other devices on your network).
Pi-Hole. It's a Raspberry Pi configured to block ads on your network, this would solve my situation BUT... I have to buy the thing, configure the device and power it constantly, I don't really want another device consuming energy (as little as such thing might consume).
What about ad blocking at cell phone level? and I mean hot spot too. Believe it or not I have one amazing data plan allowing me great speed for cheap, it's a long story... the thing is among the networks at home, this cell phone has the best speed and I would like to try using it with ad blocking enable at phone level. I was thinking on rooting the phone and modifying the host file, that would work, right? but is there an app for this same purpose? rooting an Android Phone it's not something always clean error free, same as flashing new firmware, already had some bad experiences with that.
Any ideas?
