PC Infra Red Adaptors?

Anyone using an IrDA adapter on their PC? Any recomendations?

I'm getting a new notebook and it has an irda port on it - that would be a handy way of exchanging data between the notebook and pc - and conversely, the pda.

Oh my god what i have had problems with setting up an IrDa connection between laptops and PDA's, i got so tired of it so i haven't used it for more than 1 year.
When i connect wireless i use Bluetooth which i think goes very good, but then you need to buy one of those hardware extensions too (if you don't have one inbuilt).

But my biggest problem was with the operating system.
Haven't tested it out with, Unix, Win2000, Millenium or Xp. Anyone?

I haven't gotten an irDA adapter for my PC, but was considering getting a serial port irDA unit for my Epson printer... Hook the printer to the desktop computer with the USB cable, and use the irDA unit with my laptop. There's even Palm software that would allow printing directly from my Palm via irDA to the printer.

My only reservations are that I've found the irDA HotSync function to be very touchy between the Visor and the laptop, if the PDA is jostled it often drops the connection, or if it's not at the right angle to the laptop port the connection runs SOOOO slowly... I'm not sure if these problems are inherent in irDA connections, or if it's because the Visor has a relatively low-power irDA port.
