Palm Treo 700w

Truely the best PDA / Smartphone!

First and foremost, Windows Mobile 5.0 is the best PDA OS that we have seen. Dial a number or type a letter to view contacts all off the today screen. Best in box email app that we have seen thus far. The camera/video quality is still not all that great, but they have made it even easier to send your pictures via email / mms. Second, the Treo hardware is simply the most durable and simplistic out on the market for a Smartphone. No more bulky phone with a keypad that makes it even bigger, makes life so much simpler. The first treo with an EVDO connection to make WI-FI card, without a doubt, un-necessary. Windows media player 10, gps capabilities and the list goes on.

I use to have a Samsung i730 but the bulk and keypad really killed it for me! Lets be honest as well, we're probably not going to get much better then this on these phones until they start hitting the mainstream markets with stuff like Podcasts, streaming media, or video on demand type services.(dont get me wrong, with WM 10 its obvious they are trying to through the media in there). But, until this is out there, it is a strictly business based phone that with a small community of users, that will not see much more than simple growth.

Thats just my thoughts on the whole deal! Hope to hear all of your comments!

I am considering the Treo 700w and the UTStarcom XV6700 Pocket PC. Both look promising, but I need to tether this phone to use it as a modem. I'd like to hear from anyone who has successfully tethered either phone to provide internet access for their PC or laptop.

I recently purchased the Treo 700w and have been using it for the past two weeks. However, I'm taking it back today to get the XV 6700.

I use my Treo to check email, make calls, send text messages and occasionally I use it to surf the internet. After doing all the above, my phone slows down so much that I often miss incoming calls and have to wait a few minutes to make calls. I spent 2 hours talking to Verizon yesterday about the problem.

The problem lies in the amount of Program Memory. The Treo 700w only has 25.45 MB. After closing the programs they still run in the background. I have to manually go into the Settings and close some of the running programs to make the Treo function like it should.

I'm a big Treo fan and this is somewhat disappointing. Here's a good article that I found that talks about this problem.

I say to wait until the new Treo 700p comes out from Sprint in a month or so I hope! Email Sprint and tell them to hurry up!

Windows mobile 5 is not a finalized product at all. Once again, Microsoft uses customers as beta-testers. I have WM5 on my Acer and it is quite unstable, I have to reset it 3 or 4 times a day.
It is not a hardware related problem, have a look at some forums, it won't be difficult to find many angry Dell X51v, HP 1950rx (...) owners having scandalous problems since they switched to that operating system.

I have a Treo 650 and I am ambivalent to it. I used to have the Kyocera 7135 and loved it. The major problem with the Treo I have is I am constantly hitting buttons with it under my jacket or by the seatbelt. I had to take quick keys off so I wouldn’t call my accidentally, or the last person I called, after a night out with the boys. The Kyocera was a flip phone and worked great as a phone and a PDA. The 650 dogs as a phone and is ok as a palm.

I've had my 700w for 4 days now and must say I'm quite impressed. Bought the 650 months ago and took it back immediately. WM5 is far better with one big exception. The sales pitch about real time email updates are not true. Current with exchange server you can do it every 5 minutes automatically. They don't tell you they have not yet released a software update to give you real time sync with exchange server. Talking to Verizon and even Palm it looks like another month or so before the sofware update will be released. Love the phone but whatever happened to truth in advertising? I would have bought the phone anyway but don't like being misled.
