An interesting move which may give a boost to Windows 8 OS. However, some of these are mature markets, and Android and iOS are strong and growing in other sectors.

For developers, the mature market push should make Windows a better option to earn money.

Telefónica today announced the establishment of an enhanced marketing effort with Microsoft that aims to boost the sales of Windows Phone 8 devices. Initially for a period of one year, Telefónica will enhance marketing activities in support of its Windows Phone 8 devices in the U.K., Germany, Spain, Mexico, Brazil and Chile.Telefonica To Push Windows Phone 8 To Help Make The Market "Less of a Duopoly" [pressoffice.telefonica.com]

encouraging it to be more diverse and less of a duopoly.

Don't confuse Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8. They're completely different.

If Mr. Ballmer has his way [webmasterworld.com] these 2 may be combined into a new OS Division...but to date they're quite separate.

Mmmmnnn....

Microsoft also gave Nokia lots of money to market its phones.

The strategy is a proven winner!
