Have wireless connection, but no internet

I have an apple airpot base station that is routing my comcast cable internet. I had a wireless connection on my ibook before and set up the network as "Homenetwork" I have had no problems with the internet on the laptop. My desktop however is a different story. I installed a belkin wireless card and the signal was great as I was connected to "Homenetwork" but it would not hold a connection for more than five minutes before completely dropping me. So, I talked to someone at the GeekSquad and they told me to uninstall and reinstall the wireless card software, I am not very computer savvy, but I messed around a little bit and got everything back and now my computer will hold a connection to "Homenetwork" with excellent signal strength, but I cannot get on the internet at all. I ran into an issue when setting up my desk top to a Belkin Router. I have Verizon ISP and I would connect for a short time and then get knocked off. All the Techs at Belkin told me it was one of the cards I had and needed to upgrade. Verizon told me everything should work with no problem. It didn't. Then I realized my desk top was trying to connect with the internet even though it had a connection through the router. Once I disabled the software on the desk top bang I was up and running. It seems as though every time the desk top tried to connect it would knock the router off. I'm not sure that's what your problem is but you might look in that direction.
