Google Says Over 500,000 Android Devices Activated Daily [news.cnet.com]

Google Android chief Andy Rubin tweeted today that "over 500,000 Android devices" are now activated each day around the world. Moreover, he said that activations are growing at a rate of 4.4 percent week-over-week.

Iphone? that's like android, but for old people right?

I think 50% of new activations are android right now. Iphone, blackberries, and everything else make up the rest of the new activations. So there may not be as many total, but the acceleration is huge.

Iphone is dead,android killed it. The nexus and the galaxy and a few other phones outshine the iphone. I think the marketplace isn't quite as good, but it's good enough that there's few serious deficiencies and I expect it'll surpass the iphone marketplace soon enough.

The only creepy part about android for me is booting my phone and seeing a google logo.

I just bought an android. And someone bought my storm, if you can believe that. Paid me $50 for that hunkajunk.

That seems to reflect data on Google Insight's macro trends - that Android is on war path to crush iphone. Having said that for the not so tech savy (most people!?), iphone has already staked a position in peoples minds and I doubt will be dislodged that easily... Let's face it - do I want to cancel my contract with Iphone for an ambiguous upgrade? I spent a year personalizing 50 apps which help me shop, swim, eat, measure, socialize, learn, conceptualize and collect. My brain can't possibly hack any more.

Factor in Jobs' exit aswell, the big one and I probably agree - Google will almost certainly swallow Apple.
