Verizon Wireless is working with Google Inc. on a tablet computer, the carrier's chief executive, Lowell McAdam, said Tuesday, as the company endeavors to catch up with iPad host AT&T Inc. in devices that connect to wireless networks.

In many other countries you can buy your device separately, buy your sim card separately and then buy minutes separately. You can then use the provider you want. No long term contracts, no device-carrier-specific hardware. That's the route I want to take.

Interesting theory.

Would Verizon drop their own tablet if Apple let them sell the iPad? Yes, probably, whether that was their original intention or not.

But will they ship this tablet if Apple doesn't offer them that deal? I think so.
