The group behind the world's most popular smartphone operating system - Symbian - is giving away "billions of dollars" worth of code for free.

clearly a sign that billions of dollars isn't enough to fight the tide of android/iphone os making Symbian look totally ancient. My hunch is that this strategy is designed to tap into the open source community to make sure that Symbian is improved more quickly than could possibly done in-house so as to keep the OS relevant
