I have a ipaq 5550 which i thought had integrated WiFi? but i am not able to connect to the wifi network at work. Do i need an adapter? as when i choose the network device i want to use it says, plug adpater in? very confused

Most likely your workplace has some sort of wireless security enabled. You'll have to ask your network admin for a key. Also, make sure your card is enabled.
