How well are websites built to cope with mobile phones? or even vica versa?

I looked into wml a while ago, but i guess it was either in its infancy or i wasn't looking in the right places.

It didn't seem that great..all text and no real sense of design or anthing.

Now that phones have moved on alot in the past years, in particular the iphone. Do you need to do something special to your website to allow phone users get the most out of a website? Would a normal website still display the same or do you need to build seperate pages for phones?

any advice would be helpful

I am seeing more people surfing from the PDA including myself. I am looking into doing the same thing. From what I have heard it is best to have an auto detect script so it can detect if a browser or a pda device is calling the site and show the proper output.

Currently I found this post talking about Scripts being used this may be helpful for both of us.

Let me know if you find anything. Thx

A lot depends on the markets you're talking about. There are some big differences in standard phone browsers depending on the country and carrier.

It would mainly be here in the UK at the moment that i'm looking to get it to work, or at least how to go about getting a website to display a website for mobile phones/devices.
