Browsing from cell phones?

I have an option on my cell phone plan to include browsing the web. Has anyone tried this? What can and can't a cell phone do on the web?

Mostly, what I would love to be able to do is check my webmail and respond to important messages and delete spam so it doesn't pile up. Would that be easy to do?

Is it worth $4.99 a month plus airtime (I rarely use all my minutes as it is and have free nights/weekends)?

slightly off topic ..but IMHO until phones and all the rest can deliver emials etc via voice and you can send doing the same then the "web via phone" or "palm" or whatever is about as usefull and relevant as bikes for fish...
another "geek toy" marketing example ...

I've been surfing the web on my phone since the late 90s. I surf daily for news, weather, train schedules and recently for RSS feeds. I also work with e-mail, but due to spam volumes on my standard accounts (regular ISP and work) I tend to only to deal with e-mail sent directly to my phone. Web-mail takes too long to deal with for me...but I can get up to 1000 spam mails a day on those accounts.

I just ran accross an app specificly for reading POP email on your cell phone:

I've been trying it for a day or so and it seems to work well. Typing is a bit clumsy, but you can have "canned" messages you can send at any time. I set one to tell people I got their email and to call my cell phone. The subscription is less than $3 a month, but like the web, it does use airtime.

It does seem more convenient than just using the webmail program on my server via my phone's browser. I, too, get a lot of spam, but you can delete messages from your phone without reading more than just the sender and subject. And will work with almost any POP account or Hotmail or the paid version of Yahoo.

Anyway, just something I stumbled on after I posted. Not perfect by any means, but it will work in a pinch, which is what I needed.

Setting up an email account specificly for the phone is a good idea, though! Thanks!

hi there . i have been using boh the series 60 nokia 7650 and uiq p800. they are good on gprs on gsm. this is the way to go. a bit expensive as you are charged by kb and there is a lack of wap and xml sites. otherwise its good. with g3 things start to get lively..
