Wireless PC Can Share Internet but not Network

I just purchased a Compaq laptop with built-in 802.11g wireless. I also installed a Linksys Wireless G four port router/access point.

I have three PCs in the network - the wireless, running Win XP; another laptop, wired, running Win 98; and a desktop, also wired, running Win 98.

Each machine - including the wireless - can access the Internet with no problems. And the two hardwired PCs can see each other with no problem. But those two machines can't see the wireless Compaq, and vice versa. The problem seems to persist even when I plug an ethernet cable into the wireless machine, but I didn't actually "disable" the wireless part, so maybe it was not actually using the hardwired connection.

By the way, the Compaq accesses my wired office network (using an ethernet connection) just fine.

Any suggestions?

I had a simliar problem on my home network with LinkSys B wireless router setup. The key for me to get things working was to use TCP/IP for the internet connection and NetBEUI for the LAN.

Bill - thanks for the response. The problem turned out to be Zone Alarm, which had also caused some other network problems that I couldn't understand. I have been running ZA for years, but apparently some recent upgrade changed the way it handles network connections. No Zone Alarm - instant network connectivity.

Ive heard of a few people talking about problems with the latest update of ZA. I just got rid of my copy. Got a different one... just thought id add that

Mike - do you mean you got a newer copy of ZA - or a different software firewall altogether?

Got rid of ZA and got a new one altogther, im playing with the McAfee Security Suite nowadays but im not thoroughly satisfied with it, but thats a whole nother story. Its better than ZA imo.
