From what i know and have seen, you can play normal .Avi/.Mp(e)g files on it, i'm not sure to what extent it can handle different compressions like divx etc, but i would test downloading a trailer or something like it, and test different, and see which one works the best.
Also there is a lot of places where you can download movies, most of the is not legal though, so i can't give you any tips on that, visit download.com and you will probably find an answer there.
This Google Search [google.com] seemed to turn up quite a few promising sites....
