I specialise in dog breeder websites or dog/cat website pages as I love animals, as well as my website designing. Can anyone tell me ways to get more clients - I'm on a very small budget, can anyone tell me of any places to advertise etc. that doesn't cost much or are Free. Let me know of suggestions that has worked for yourselfs that I can try out. All suggestions etc appreciated.

Email me or reply here.

Thank you so much.

Sophie.

I hope this helps. I've built or worked on 100+ sites since 1995. Some for multinationals (yes, you would know the names) and some for local retail. Most of my clients came (I'm mostly in other endeavours now) from A) dice, B) client referral and C) networking. Just start dialogs with others in the field who are not competitors in a direct sense. If their shop is busy, and they like your work, they may give you some of their overflow or projects that are too small for them.

Additionally, since you seem to have identified a niche, you may want to contact some of the related associations and (after setting a nice, healthy rate) offer a discount to their members.

Good luck and good hunting! And try to be patient.

Having a site with an online portfolio helps with clients interesting in hiring you. Put a link to your home site on sites you create (work this out with your clients, lots of free advertising if your sites are well done).

Make a list of publications or other media that your target clients may read/view frequently. Brainstorm creative ways to get your service in front of their eyes. You may be able to partner with existing outlets through revenue sharing agreements (you give me free advertising and I will give you 10-15% commission for referred work etc.)

Try taking a look around for clubs or similar sites to the subject you prefer. Maybe members there are looking to start their own site with which you can help.
Perhaps check your local areas for businesses that might be interested in your services, make yourself a nice portfolio up and drop in to seem them, only cost then is your time.

Until you want to start paying for advertising use basic listings in the search engines.

The more you learn about your market the more avenues will present themselves.

well Im a bit of a newbie to web design as well but here's what i have been told and can vouch that it works.

1. Get an online portfolio(take your time and do it right)

2. NETWORK - def. the most important thing you can do! I have had a few jobs here and there and most of the first ones come from friends of people I have met on the field! or hand me downs from other desingners witha full plate.

3. Get your name out there! if it means that your first few jobs will be cheap then so be it.
