PHP and ASP/ASP.net

As far as building a database driven website which is best and why?

Ive asked a few people and searched the web a little but the only answer seems to be biased as to which language someone prefers ie c or vb.

I want to know if there are any significant advantages or disadvantages between the two, and what are they.

Any help is most needed and appreciated
