Hello, I've been hired by an Environmental Sciences department to expand their current web site (a very simple one-page site). They want images on the site, but can't provide me with any. They are hoping that I can help provide then with appropriate images for the site.

Does anyone have any advice on good places to obtain free quality images? I've heard there are sites that offer images for the web, but have no idea where to begin.

Thanks! :)

I am still looking for that 'holy grail' w/o being innundated with 5,000 pop ups. I'm not sure where to point you and don't want to tell you to use the google image search. ;)

Try >>www.sxc.hu/ a good image library that is 100% free to use on commercial websites (after you have performed a search use the drop box on the right hand side to sort the results by most 'downloads' and 'ratings')

Alternatively do a search for 'free stock photos' or 'royalty free photos' on a search engine - you might find some free images worth using - though no doubt the majority of results will end in some form of payment on your behalf.

A quick search here at WebmasterWorld found a bunch of threads that should help you in your search:

[webmasterworld.com...]
[webmasterworld.com...]
[webmasterworld.com...]
[webmasterworld.com...]

:)

When it's time for me to go searching for new images (either clip art or photos) I find that it's best to do it around lunch break or towards the end of the day ... because for me it ends up being so much fun looking around at various sites and seeing what's out there, I end up searching around for hours!

Good luck with your search.

www.istockphoto.com is not free but is very inexpensive and the quality is improving all the time.
