I'm brand new here and I have a very strange problem.

I designed and maintain a website for a friend for free. I just completed an update the past few days.

Here's the problem. On two pages, she says some words are hyperlinked and if she clicks on them they go to money making sites or similar. I've looked at the site again on my computer and I don't see any hyperlinks to any text other than what is set up in the HTML coding. I have no idea how this is happening to her since I don't see it. I also don't see that anyone has hijacked the site.

I'm on disability and I do this stuff only occasionally and only to keep busy, that's why no charge as I'm mostly ill everyday. I've been teaching myself this design stuff to keep my busy but I have never heard of this! So I have no clue what to do....anybody know what she's talking about or what's happening to cause this?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help. I'm really clueless on this.

That's a common feature of parasite ware, particularly TopText. She needs to browse on over to google.com and do a search (in the directory not the search engine) for adware removal or spyware removal. And download and install the removal software, and run it. I use Adaware from lavasoftusa.com but I know there are others out there.

Seeber,
Thank you! I was wracking my brain trying to figure this out. I've had AdAware running on my system for a few years now so no wonder it wasn't happening to me.

You've been a huge help! I passed the info onto my friend.

Hi Cary,
Dropping url's is a big no-no here. It's against the TOS. So please be so kind as to edit it out. Thanks.

Welcome to Webmasterworld. :)
